new toys and new beginnings

TOG is updating his web log from work in style now. Just today, the AE department got 10 new 19" flat screen ViewSonic Monitors, and TOG managed to nab one before they got put in our labs.

Today is the last day of February (officially designated by TOG as the "Month of Seclusion"). Over all I judge this experimental month to be a success. I paid more attention to things I need to be getting done, got in better touch with some old friends, and got some high quality soul-relaxation time, which was sorely needed after a big part of my life got an emotional Daisy Cutter dropped on it. But that's all in the past. Now, it's onward and upward.

Proud day for you and your family (2nd edition)

With all those "really smart" people at harvard, you would think they would be able to make their own blogs, but no they need professional web log ambassadors to help them.

The new plan for rebuilding the WTC site was chosen to day, and it includes a 1,776 foot spire that would be the tallest building in the world! That's right you dirty islamic fundamentalists. You blow up our pretty office buildings and we go out replace them the tallest building in the freaking world! We've got the glory, and you've got a giant kitty litter box. Bjork you all!

In Memorium

Early this morning Fred Rogers died of stomach cancer. Mister Rogers' Neighborhood ran for 30 years, and we all grew up on it. There was always something about him that made me feel at peace. The world is now a less peaceful and calm without him hear. Mr Rogers, you were loved and will be greatly missed. Visit Mr. Rogers' website and continue to amazed at this wonderful man.

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...

It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood,
A neighborly day for a beauty.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...

I've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you.
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So, let's make the most of this beautiful day.
Since we're together we might as well say:
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?
Won't you please,
Won't you please?
Please won't you be my neighbor?

Sarah "I have a silly name" Crumpacker!

Congratulations Sarah, you win the contest and a brand new shiny paperclip. The rest of you shrewds need to step up the next time a contest comes around. Anyway, here's a list of the good entries I found, feel free to add more in the comments.

Going to war without France is like...

Boarding a submarine without a parachute;
taking a shower without the blow dryer;
going on your honeymoon without your mother-in-law
going into the ninth inning without your place-kicker
negotiating without Jimmy Carter
going to a restaurant without the condescending gender-disoriented maitre d'
not having to worry about the enemy doing an end-run around your eastern flank
a picnic without ants and flies
Texas barbecue without a croissant
flying without an anchor
going to hell and back without the flowery hand-basket;
Military History!
going to Tahiti without your snowshoes
driving cross-country without a 2-year-old with an overactive bladder

...and the winning entry:
Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without the accordian.

What you talking 'bout Willis?
in today's episode, TOG writes responses to statements made recently

Dumb Person in the Free for All:”Wow, the Bush administration pledged $1 billion for renewable energy fuel cell research over the next five years. But wait a minute, they pledged $380 billion for just 2004´s war on terrorism. Where are our priorities?”

TOG: Our priorities are on protecting your hippie butt so that you don't have to sleep with one eye open for fear that terrorist will decimate your town with a gallon of anthrax. All the wind-generated electricity in the world won't stop a bullet.

Official Boss of TOG:"I say in the Ad's an Omega 750 for 130 bucks, I also saw a CD-RW that can burn 60 minutes of files...*insert 5 minutes of silence here*...that was only a hundred-ten.

TOG (not to boss's face of course):Omega? Why do I give a crap about Watches? and Omega doesn't even use model numbers, they use names. Did you mean Iomega? because they sell a 750MB Zip dive. I'm not even going to dignify your last statement with any sort of response...then again, I just can't pass up an opportunity to point out your stupidity. I don't think you have freaking clue what you are talking about. You are old, and you don't understand the words coming out of your mouth. Just leave the tech talk and walk to me, and you'll save yourself from looking like a retard.

Today's Personal Observation:

I couldn't take my own advice to save my life. I'm not taking "Good Will Hunting" style advice either, where one analogy is not neccessarly the right thing for two totally different situations. I'm talking "could give my own clone leading my life spot-on advice, but wouldn't even entertain the thought of my own advice as a possible cause-of-action" style advice.

In the Rich Gannon game of Life. I dispense wisdom like Al Davis, but take it like Marty Schottenheimer.
